About the Market Intelligence Group
GMI – The Global Market Intelligence Team is a fast-paced group of global consultants who are accountable for providing in-depth market assessments for all industrial markets that impact Alcoa’s supply chain, directly or indirectly. These assessments are used to develop Alcoa Procurement’s sourcing strategies and help guide critical business decisions. To effectively complete its mission, GMI:
Creates insights into Alcoa’s businesses, supply chain markets, competitors, and suppliers through fact-based analysis;
Develops actionable solutions to key strategic questions by working closely with Alcoa procurement leadership and business units;
Aggressively drives continuous improvement initiatives within the market intelligence community to enhance the sophistication of our research tools and communication processes in order to maximize stakeholder value.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated and energetic team member to join our successful GMI organization as Aluminum Smelting Commodities and Transportation Consultant.

The GMI team is a natural starting point because of its unique exposure to Alcoa’s critical supply chain, business units, and the vast number of economic, political, environmental, and legal factors that impact the commodity markets in which we transact. Our expectation is that after a 2-3 year experience as a Consultant, team members will be well-positioned to pursue expanded positions within Alcoa’s procurement sourcing organization, or branch out into other exciting groups focused on business strategy, marketing, or finance.
Reporting relationship
The Market Intelligence Consultant will report to the Global Market Intelligence Manager, who is responsible for managing all aspects of Alcoa’s Market Intelligence for Strategic Raw Materials, Indirect Materials, Services, and Transportation.
Market Intelligence Consultant Responsibilities:
Support Alcoa’s smelting and refining transportation procurement group by providing in-depth market assessments for both maritime and ground/rail transportation markets in key regions globally
Lead primary and secondary research with consultants, market research firms, and industry participants to extract critical market data used to provide fact-based insight to global business stakeholders.
Manage database and repository for market data, including commodity prices, supply and demand fundamentals, producer cost models, and all other relevant pieces of information.
Track key fundamentals in downstream derivative markets and upstream feedstock markets to understand both direct and indirect impact on Alcoa’s strategic supply chain.
Conduct financial analysis such as ROI and discounted cash flow to determine feasibility of capital investments and/or vertical integration strategies. These should include modeling capabilities of our own anode producing plants.
Perform scenario-based analysis to help predict future market conditions and commodity prices based on a complex set of dynamic variables, and robust price forecasting models.
Be comfortable and confident to deliver market intelligence briefings to all levels of the organization, including executive leadership.
Participate in Procurement and Business lead team meetings to deliver market intelligence assessments and commodity market updates on a regular basis
Work closely with internal strategy and market research groups to understand the key aluminum market fundamentals that will impact the global aluminum supply chain.
Qualifications
Candidates must have intelligence, market research, consulting, or strategy experience.
Minimum overall work experience of 5 years.
Fluent English.
The ability to work virtually with a diverse team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills is a must.
Familiarity working with large data sets and direct experience with manipulating, interpreting, and drawing actionable insights from these data sets.
Microsoft Excel and data management skills to an advanced level, as well as direct experience developing executive level presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint
Strong networking skills and aggressiveness to continuously expand network.
Economics, market research, chemical engineering, or related subject, to degree level
Additional Information
Good understanding of the global aluminum industry and/or Energy industry would be a strong advantage.
MBA or Master's Degree from an accredited institution is desirable
